The family of pigs are brought back to the pigsty
1789 The “royal pigs” are returned to the pigsty
I love this cartoon! You treated us like pigs and now we are going to treat you like pigs.
King Louis Sixteenth and Marie Antoinette will not stay long in the pigsty before meeting their fate. They have tried to leave France and have been brought back to Paris for execution. This anger once unleashed has been difficult to subdue. When you watch French farmers filling the road with dung or the Gilets Jaunes stopping the traffic while the police at the scene do nothing, you may be seeing the distant vibrations of this event.
The new King carried on with little real regard to the tumultuous years which had completely changed France. This set the stage for 40 wasted years while countries around them including England and Prussia, not to forget Belgium, were embracing the industrial revolution and doing great things for their people.
